The Tempest, Shakespeare’s final masterpiece, is a captivating tale of magic, love, family, and forgiveness. Exiled from their kingdom, Prospero and daughter Miranda have survived on an enchanted deserted island for 12 years. When fate and a chance to exact revenge transpire, Prospero conjures a storm that shipwrecks their enemies and others on the same island. As Miranda falls in love with one of the shipwreck’s survivors, Prospero endeavors to use magic and manipulation to exact revenge. This piece explores themes of loss, restoration, fault, and forgiveness, and celebrates what it means to be human.

 Tickets for Youth Theater productions are $15 for adults and $13 for children. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3:00 p.m. Sundays. Schools and home school groups may reserve seats for student matinees immediately at 216-521-2540.

Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on January 11 & 12, 2024 for their third production in their 76th seaon

Saturday, January 11: 2:00 to 5:00pm & Sunday, January 12: 12:30 to 3:30 pm

Callbacks: Monday, Jan. 13 between 4:30 and 8:30pm

* Youth Theater roles are only eligible to students who are enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2025 semester. Actors do not need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the production requires enrollment in our Winter/Spring 2025 semester. Students enrolled online and in person in the Theater, Dance, Music, Creative Arts Therapies, and/or Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible. *Financial Assistance is available.

**Please note that class sizes and offerings are limited at this time, so please register in advance if possible

What to Prepare:

      Prepare a short one-minute comedic monologue (Memorization is strongly encouraged.)

      Prepare a sonnet (Shakespearean or other) to present – link to Shakespearean sonnets- https://nosweatshakespeare.com/sonnets/

      Prepare a Headshot (picture of your student), and resume for online submission.

      Prepare a list of all potential rehearsal conflicts.

Potential Rehearsals: January 18 – February 22, 2025

·         Mon, Tue, Weds, Thurs, Fri: between 4:30 – 8:30pm

·         Saturdays: between 2:00 – 6:00pm

·         Sundays: between 12:30 – 6:00pm

The show will NOT be rehearsing every day or the full-time range listed. The director will pick the days that best accommodate everyone’s schedules – once conflicts and availability are known for the above dates.

 

Tech Week:  February 23-27, 2025

·         Sunday between 12:00 – 7:00 pm and Weeknights between 5:00 – 9:00 pm

All cast members are expected to attend ALL rehearsals during Tech Week.

Performance dates:  February 28- March 9, 2025

All cast members are required to attend all performances.

·         Fridays, February 28, March 7 at 7:30 pm

·         Saturday, March 1, 8 at 7:30 pm

·         Sunday, March 2, 9 at 3:00 pm

·         Student Matinee: Thursday, March 6 at 10:00 am

(NOTE: This will require missing school that morning.)

All performances are at theaters inside Beck Center for the Arts located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, just ten minutes west of downtown Cleveland. Free onsite parking is available. For more information visit beckcenter.org.
